스코트 299 진공관 앰프

 AR2ax, 4x , 스펜더 계열(특히, BC-1) 에 베스트매칭으로 손꼽히고 있다.

피셔와 함께 양대산맥이였던  H.H. 스코트사.  진공관 시기에 오히려 기기 완성도나 음색면에선 피셔보다 오히려 우위에 서는 기기들이 많았고, FM 스테레오와 TR 시대로 넘어가면서, 피셔의 독주가 시작됐다.

H.H. Scott 299 인티앰프는 A, B, C, D 네 종류가 있습니다. 

299A는 Scott의 첫 스테레오 인티앰프로서, 1958-1960에 제작되었고, 7189 출력관 4개를 쓰며, 채널당 17-18와트 정도의 출력입니다. 

299B는 1960-1961에 제작됬고, 트랜트포머가 커져서 21-22와트정도의 출력입니다. 

그후 제작된 299C와 299D는 출력관이 7591로 바뀌어, 출력이 더 커졌습니다. 현재 7591관은 구하기 힘들뿐 아니라, 299A 또는 299B가 포노단이 더 좋습니다.

황준 5,60년대 피셔社와 스코트社는 미국의 중고가(中高價) 하이파이 오디오를 양분하다시피하는 관계였습니다. 앰프는 피셔가 인기가 있었고, 튜너는 스코트가 더 평가가 좋았었습니다. 저는 이 두 회사의 앰프를 이것저것 닥치는 대로 들어 본 경험이 있었습니다. 저는 발매 당시, 오디오의 캐딜락이라 불렸던 피셔보다 스코트사의 인티앰프가 귀에 쏙 들어오더군요. 

스코트 인티중에서도 출력이 센 7591이나 EL34보다도 출력이 다소 작지만 EL84/ 6BQ5/7189를 사용한 인티앰프가 특히 좋았습니다.오래된 알리코 텔레푼켄이나 그룬디히 스피커뿐 아니라 AR-2에 물린 스코트 인티앰프의 소리는 아주 섬세하면서 단정합니다. 바이올린이나 클래식 소품에는 따라올 앰프가 없을 정도로 고운 소리를 들려주었습니다. 요즘들어 스코트의 인티앰프가 장터나 샵에 많이 보이는데요. 스코트 인티 앰프 중 6BQ5/7189를 사용한 모델(스코트 299A 또는 B, 스코트 399를 지칭) 이 보인다면 무조건 업어오는 것이 좋습니다. 

6BQ5(7189)를 사용한 인티앰프는 222 시리즈와 299 시리즈 일부 모델(스코트 299A와 2999B)입니다. 222 시리즈는 299시리즈의 하급기입니다. 299 시리즈는 판넬의 램프가 매우 예뻐서 ‘크리스마스 트리’라고도 불렸습니다. 튜너와 같이 사용하면 볼만합니다.

H.H. Scott, Inc. was a major manufacturer of hi-fi equipment in the U.S. It was founded in 1947 by Hermon Hosmer Scott in Maynard, Massachusetts.

History

H.H. Scott sold some of the earliest FM stereo multiplex tuners and receivers, with some units sold as kits. The company's competition included brands like Fisher, Marantz, McIntosh, and Harman Kardon. The 1961 Model 350 was the first FM stereo multiplex tuner sold in the USA. H.H. Scott was involved in early stereo multiplex testing with radio station WCRB in Boston, one of the first three U.S. FM stations to broadcast in multiplex stereo. In 1985, the brand was purchased by Emerson Electronics.
